Origin | Windlesham, UK |
Buddleja davidii 'Fromow's Purple' is a British cultivar raised circa 1945 by the Fromow Nursery of Windlesham, Surrey. [1]
'Fromow's Purple' is a vigorous shrub producing large terminal panicles of deep purple flowers;[2] it also enjoys a prolonged flowering season.[3]. The foliage is a medium green, typical of the species.[4]
'Fromow's Purple' was soon eclipsed by more exotic cultivars such as 'Ile de France', [5] and is now uncommon in cultivation in the UK. [6] The cultivar is not listed in the 2011 - 2012 edition of the RHS Plantfinder, and is probably no longer in commerce. 'Fromow's Purple' is not known to have been introduced to North America. A specimen is grown as part of the NCCPG national collection held by Longstock Park Nursery in the UK.
